Description

This route traverses areas that belong to the  Natura  2000 network, so proceed with respect to the environment.

Starting from Kontopouli, take the road that connects the village with Keros beach. Arriving at the beach, leave your vehicle in the pine grove. Starting at that point, move northeast, on the dirt road along the coast towards Asprolimni and Aliki. After 2.3 km, at the first crossing, take the left path, leaving Keros beach behind you. On your left, you will see Asprolimni, and encounter a wooden bird observatory, an ideal spot for a break. Try your luck at capturing pictures of Eleonora’s Falcons. After 700 meters on a dirt road, you’ll reach the Apan Gialos beach. Wander in the beach but also in the narrow passage between Aliki and the sea. Low vegetation with tamarisks and angelica sylverstris dominate a captivating landscape of minimal human intervention. Along the coast, you may happen upon the rare and protected sea lilies. Bird fauna in the area is abundant during most of the seasons. Especially from autumn to early spring, hundreds of wintering birds find a hospitable haven in Limnos. Respectfully observe flamingos, little egrets, herons, avocets, and Eleonora’s Falcons seek their food, rest and reproduce in the area.

Return by the same route or by selecting a parallel dirt road, to Keros beach.
